According to a nation-wide study from the Technological University of Monterrey, Quintana Roo is the leader in tourism for Mexico. With 3 international airports and 5 maritime terminals with more than 5 million tourists arriving annually in 1500 cruise ships, Quintana Room receives 10,000,000 (ten million) visitors a year.
Currently there are roughly 76,000 hotel rooms in the state of Quintana Roo. At a growth rate of 5,000 rooms per year, Dario Flota Ocampo, sub secretary of Tourism for the State of Quintana Roo, estimates that we would probably reach 80,000 rooms before the end of 2010.
Out of the 76,000 hotel rooms, 38,000 rooms are located in the Riviera Maya, 28,000 in Cancun, 5,000 in Cozumel and approximately 5,000 more between Chetumal and Isla Mujeres.
